Pope St. Leo the Great

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

Pope St. Leo the Great

In celebrating this feast day, one of the things we recognize and celebrate is the way the Lord guides and governs His people.

The Book of Wisdom speaks to those who have been given authority in this world. The author of this book points out that it is important for those that have been given authority to not turn their back on how the Lord wants us all to live.

The Lord is not impressed, in any form, of any Earthly greatness! There is no status on this earth that gets the Lord’s attention!

This is why Pope St. Leo is so important. He was a truly faith-full and heroic pastor. One who founded his life on the Wisdom of the Lord and refused to compromise on that Wisdom.

There are many remarkable stories about Pope St. Leo. The Homily discusses one of these stories and it would be good for all to hear it.

The Gospel today focuses on the ten who have a disease. Jesus cures all with the disease. One returns and thanks the Lord. The healing occurred when they obeyed the Lord. Hear about the gratitude of this one soul, and how it might influence our own devotion to the Lord.
