The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Maria Bambina

Father Hugh Gillespie, SMM

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

It is important not to overlook the simple joys of life.

We celebrate today the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a day of joy. Life is beautiful. It is often overlooked. Life is joyous. The first gift we all receive on our birthday, is the gift of having been born. Hear more about this joy in the Homily.

The Church celebrates today one of three birthdays. Of all the holy men and women, the Church celebrates only three earthly birthdays. Saints are celebrated, normally on their birth into Heaven. The Church only celebrates three humans’ birthdays on earth;  Our Lady, Our Lord on December 25th, and . . . St. John the Baptist (in June). Hear more in the Homily on why this is true.

On the Day Our Lady Was Born

Our birthdays bring joy … to our families, and to the heart of God. Wow! Consider that!

On the day Our Lady was born, and she opened her eyes, it was the first time someone without sin, and full of grace, looked upon the world. A look without sin. What she must have seen, is amazing! Hear more in the Homily!

Holy Mary, Cause of Our Joy. Hear more about this title of Our Lady in the Homily.

Hear about the Maria Bambina image, as we celebrate The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The image comes to Long Island for the first time from Milan, Italy.
