Jesus Tells Us of Eternal Reward . . . And the Reverse

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

Jesus Tells Us of Eternal Reward . . . And the Reverse

The Homily opens again with St James letter (not included within this audio).

Scripture recounts someone who has stored up his treasures for the last days. Worldly goods are stored. Scripture says lets look at your wealth. You withheld wages from your workers. How will that help you in your last days?! You exploited others! That is not really going to help you in your last days! James does not say . . . if you are wealthy you are damned. No! There is a danger when one gives oneself over to profit or worldly goods. Hear more about what James tells us!

In the Gospel, there is a similar theme that Jesus speaks to us! A simple thing . . . a simple act of giving someone a cup of water, because they are connected to the Lord. . . has a touch of eternity. Then Jesus continues the discussion. If one causes a little one to pull away from the Lord . . . Or, if one focuses only on worldly goods . . . He describes what will happen!
