Jesus tells the Apostles (and Us) to Trust In the Way of the Lord

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

Jesus tells the Apostles (and Us) to . . .

In the first reading, David leaves instructions (reading not captured in this audio).

Take courage and be a man . . . David says to his son. David continues . . . and give yourself to walking in the way of the Lord. What a wonderful description of what it means for a woman or a man to have courage. Courage is not to look upon your enemy; it is not to be aggressive. However, it means be firm in the way of what is right; be firm in the way of the Lord. Do not be ashamed by that. Don’t let anything stop you in being what you should be.

This is how David insists his rule will be secure. It isn’t because his son is trained in politics. It is because he is firm in the way of the Lord.

This is not the statement on what a kingship rests upon. Rather, it is a rule on how his house rests upon. David speaks to his son . . . not just to someone who will be taking care of the kingship. He will be taking care of the household. The House of David, rests with his son.

Walking in the way of goodness is not something we talk about much in today’s world. While many desire it, few persevere in the way of goodness. When we go to confession and repeat the prayer . . .we commit to goodness. We often, however, do not place that commitment into our heart and we stray from goodness. We often do not take the statement from David to heart. Be firm in your commitment to change; be firm in your commitment to goodness.

. . . Trust In the Way of the Lord

In the Gospel, Jesus sends out the Apostles. He gives them authority over evil and illness. But He instructs them to not take anything with them. Why? The Lord implies that we need things and stuff . . . but, what he says is to trust in the Lord. He will help you and reward you with what you need and provide you with grace. Hear more in this audio.  Hear more what the Lord desires for us . . . and from us!

Listen to this Meditation Media and have courage . . . trust in the Lord.
