Honoring in Our Hearts the Goodness and Greatness of the Lord

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

Honoring in Our Hearts the Goodness and Greatness of the Lord

In today’s Gospel, Jesus drives out those conducting business in the Temple.

My Father’s house is a house of prayer, says the Lord. Today’s Homily, asks what is going on within our own temple, our hearts?

The original Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed and razed to the ground by the Babylonians. The audio defines what happened to the second and third Temple in Jerusalem. In each case, there is a question concerning the dedication and purification of the temples.   In each case, as it is today, the focus is on servicing and worshipping the Lord in the right way.

Worldly affairs do not impress the Lord. People conducting business in and near the temple, does not impress the Lord. The original temple was built to honor the goodness and greatness of the Lord. When Jesus enters the temple in the Gospel, he does not see people acting that way. He sees people caring about worldly affairs. Jesus drives out the men doing business in the temple.
