St. Paul’s Message About the Human Heart

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

St. Paul’s Message About the Human Heart

St.  Paul’s continues in the Letter to the Romans.

He tells us to always chose the better way! Yet today’s readings says, after choosing the better way, I still do not get there. Perhaps everyone can relate to this statement. St. Paul says there may be times when one is pulled off course, even though one has the desire to do something good.

St. Paul talks about the divided heart within humans. As soon as I decide to do the will of God, often, a human heart’s wickedness wakes up inside. St. Paul expresses the pain. He recognizes the pain. When I set my mind to the good, my flesh resists. St. Paul is honest in his teachings of the Spiritual Life.
