The Church’s Foundation: The Twelve Apostles

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

The Twelve Apostles

In life, many believe there are two ways to travel.

Some are not sure where they are going and take a road and will know their destination when they see it. Others, know exactly where they are going, and map it out. Spiritually, our journey can take the same two ways.

The people of God, is not founded upon the twelve tribes of Israel. Wow! What a curious statement. We always heard that God’s chosen people are the Israelites and the twelve tribes of Israel! How could the people of God not have at its foundation the twelve tribes?

The foundation for the people of God is the Church! That also is curious, since Israel comes before the Church! How could the Church be the foundation? In time, Israel came first. The twelve tribes of Israel, however, are not the foundation for God’s people. The twelve Apostles are the foundation for the Church. Again, Israel exists at the service of God’s plan for the Church! The Church is the reason Israel exists!

The foundation stones are the Apostolic witness of the Apostles. In the Gospel it is stated Jesus saw Nathaniel, one of the Apostles. In the Homily, it is stated Jesus also saw you. See how you connect to the Apostles . . . and the Church! Hear more in this Meditation Media. Hear more why Abraham is at the service of God’s plan.
