St. Lawrence the Martyr

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

For the Glory of God!

In today’s age, one does not hear often about St. Lawrence the Martyr.

And that is a shame. He is one of the great witnesses to the Gospel. Its important not to forget the history of the Church. Not to forget the holiness of great people that make holiness in today’s church possible. Lawrence is one of the great holy saints.

Lawrence was one of the seven deacons serving in Rome. He was the holiest and greatest of the seven deacons. He served the poor in the city of Rome, in the name of Jesus. His service was remarkable!

He was remarkable in service, not just because he was faithful or even generous. Lawrence was faithful and generous. He never lost the idea that he was first, himself, a beggar. He understand that before the Lord, everyone of us are beggars. Lawrence served joyfully as a result of this knowledge.

Service, according to St. Lawrence, was for the Glory of God.

Listen to more about St. Lawrence. Listen to how he served. Hear more about his example and how it should impact our own service, and our own Spiritual Life.

Additionally, listen to hear about a Montfort priest murdered in France this past week.
