Our Lady of Guadalupe

T here are many forms of devotion to Our Lady. Many have a devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Fatima and on this day, Our Lady of Guadalupe. If we are not careful, we can reduce these devotions to mere sound bites. This feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe is not immune from this human characteristic. We should pause and put aside what we think we know. By laying aside what we know, we can learn more about this Feast day and appreciate it a little more slowly.

Much of what has been written about over the last few years is the mystery of the miraculous image. Many over the last few years have focused on unpacking the images and the hidden messages. This isn’t bad…but it misses the point. Our Lord and Our Lady do not reveal themselves in the form of secrets … secrets that have to be parsed out and interpreted. People often look through the details … and miss the fundamentals.
