All Souls Day: Its Importance

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

T here is something important about praying for our loved ones, that the world often does not understand.

The world sees the departed as talks of them in terms of memories. They normally talk about the departed in terms of their loss (loss of the departed presence in their lives). This is how the world who does not know Christ, understands death.

In the Gospel, Our Lord tells a departed son to rise. He tells the mother he will rise. The Gospel talks of rising again. The Gospel talks of the grief of a mother. All Souls Day, is the day when tears (and prayers) for the departed have extraordinary power. Hear how the Gospel is important to us on the Feast of All Souls Day.
