In the Image of the Father

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

In the Image of the Father …

H ave you been with me all this time and still, you do not know me!

The gospel that was read likely applies to most, if not all of us! We all might think we know the Lord. But there is a danger in that, if we rest on what we know…or what we think we know. The danger is that we do not allow the Lord to show us the greater … what the Lord has in His mind for us.

The Church gives a great teaching in the gospel that was read. Whoever, has seen Me has seen the Father, Jesus tells us! Wow! This is a pertinent statement that we hear. It’s an important lesson on the day we celebrate Mother’s Day! Why? How are the two connected? Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father.

The audio further discusses what it means to be in the image … and the likeness … of God. Man and woman have been created in the image of God…and after His likeness. When God looked at Adam … when God looks at us, he sees Himself…in the Divine Image. God created us…in the Divine Image.

So what / how does that relate to Mothers? The brining of life into the world … is a cooperation of bringing the Divine Image…into the world. Hear more about what the Image of the Father means … and how it relates to all of us…as well as to Mothers. Listen to this 24 minute audio.

This image is of the Trinitarian Mystery. Note: The Son is made in the image of the Father, so the Father and Son look alike. The Son sits at the right hand of the Father. Both are holding the World, the Children of God the Father. The Holy Spirit’s wings touches the mouth of both the Son and the Father as they speak the Word of God.
