Truly the Queen of All Hearts

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

Devotion to Mary is a grace.

We must work at our faith and pray, but that is not enough.

We must ask Heaven for the grace of Devotion to Mary!

T ruly the Queen of All Hearts

The last three Special Devotional Series conferences explore several titles of Mary: Vessel of Devotion, Arc of the Covenant, and The Goodness of Mary. This conference begins by explaining the next several conferences, including the Lord’s Ascension, the Special Novena and “Made Worthy of the Promises of Christ”.

This series is exploring the titles of Mary within the special Litany of Loreto, a prayer recognized by the Catholic Church hundreds of years ago. The prayer outlines Mary’s titles honoring:

The Name of Mary – The Motherhood of Mary – The Virginity of Mary

This conference focuses on the Queenship of Mary. There are a number of Queen titles within the prayer including:

  • Queen of Angels,
  • Queen of Patriarchs,
  • Queen of Prophets,
  • Queen of Apostles,
  • Queen of Martyrs,
  • Queen of Confessors,
  • Queen of Virgins,
  • Queen of all Saints,
  • Queen conceived without original sin,
  • Queen assumed into heaven,
  • Queen of the most Holy Rosary,
  • Queen of Families,
  • Queen of Peace.

The audio explains several of these titles, while this brief overview will only glimpse at a few. The fifteenth Mystery of the Rosary is the Crowning of Mary. August 22 is the Feast of the Queenship of Mary. Many statues show Mary enthroned with a Crown. What do these visible signs tell us about Mary and her Queenship?

Queen of Angels

Of all the Queen titles on the list within the Litany, it is only the first one that is a heavenly reality. All the other Queen titles are an earthly reality. What does Queen of Angels actually tell us? Mary is not an Angel! We are not Angels when we die. Mary may be considered the best of all humans (excluding her Son), but she is not an Angel. Why is she considered the Queen of Angels?

Mary’s glory is beyond (or superior to) the Angels. She is Queen of the Angels and Angels are pleased to serve her. Why? Mary’s Glory is attributed to the Glory of her Son (see slide #1 below). The Lord is greater than the Angels. Our Lady’s Glory, due to the closeness to Jesus, must be greater than the Angels. No Angel can say they are the Lord’s mother. She has a Glory higher than the Angels. Her dominion is over the Angels, and they are pleased to serve her!

Queen of Apostles

Mary is not one of the twelve apostles. Yet, why is she the Queen of Apostles? In the Gospel of John’s story of Cana, we see that Jesus and his disciples were there, along with Mary. His disciples believed in Jesus, to some extent, but not fully. In the Cana story, one can focus on the miracle of turning water into wine. One can focus on the miracle of the wine steward trusting and bringing the “water” to the head steward to taste. One can focus on several topics in reading the story (see slide #3). But Mary is concerned for the disciples, since they do not yet fully believe in Jesus.

In this story, we hear the words of Mary. The Lord works His miracles. But one aspect to focus on when reading the Gospel is Mary. She intervenes so the disciples believe in Jesus.

During the nine days after the Ascension, what did the Apostles do? They waited in the Upper Room, as Jesus told them. But what did the Apostles do there? They waited with Mary, and prayed with Mary (see slide #4).

United in Prayer with Mary

As they waited for the Holy Spirit to come on Pentecost Sunday, the Apostles prayed with Mary. They prayed … with Mary. Not the other way around. Most Christians fail to recognize the significance of this in our own prayers. Yes, we pray to Mary, but do we unite our prayers with Mary, as the Apostles did? Mary always prays with us, but are our prayers united with her prayers? Listen to the audio as this is explored more fully.

Queen of Martyrs

Saint Stephen, many of the apostles and numerous other saints experienced a martyrs’ death. How can Mary be considered the Queen of Martyrs (see slide #5)? Mary participated in the Lord’s Passion as she stood at the foot of The Cross. As Simeon said at the Mystery of the Presentation, her heart will be pieced … Mary’s martyr was bloodless. But her martyr is greater than all the martyrs put together. No other martyr suffers as Mary suffered at the foot of The Cross. Hear why she is the Queen of Martyrs in this conference.

Queen of All Hearts

St. Louis de Montfort frequently states the one who humbles themselves, will be exalted (See slides #6-#9). In Our Lady’s Magnificat, something similar is stated. In slide #7, from the Letter of James, he discusses this topic. As great a blessing the Lord gives Our Lady, the greatest of all blessings, she is humble. She is the most humblest of all humans (excluding her Son). Give glory as she is exalted higher than all Angels.

Queen of All Hearts is a title that is dear to and important to St. Louis de Montfort. It summarizes all the Queen titles in the Litany. The saying from James (slide #7) is embodied in the longer Consecration Prayer. It is also embodied in the shorter consecration prayer Fr. de Montfort lays out in True Devotion and Secret of Mary: I Am All Yours, and All That I Have is Yours.

Jesus shares everything with Our Lady. He blesses her and crowns her with His trust. Jesus shares all with her, and all that He has is hers. Should we do the same as Our Lord? I Am All Yours, and All That I Have is Yours.

Mary has received from God dominion over the elect (slide #8). Hear what Queen of All Hearts means. All members of the Association, and all non-members who have made their Act of Total Consecration, should listen to this audio and understand the significance of the title Queen of All Hearts!

Truly the Queen of All Hearts

Mary is with us always within our hearts. The work that we do, the prayers we pray, the services we complete, are performed so they may be truly hers. In doing so, they will be truly His.
