The Stations of the Cross in Union with Mary was written in the 1890s by Reverend John Marie Texier, SMM. Father was a priest of The Company of Mary in France and published this Way of the Cross specifically for members of the Association of Mary, Queen of All Hearts! It was written in French, and was translated this year by Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM, almost 120 years after it was written. It is likely this has never been heard in English, and this year has been part of each Friday’s Lenten Season prayers at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Island.
The fact that it was written so long ago for Queen of All Hearts members and is very different from the Stations that almost all have previously prayed, we find amazing. At the end of each Station, the congregation prays the Our Father… Hail Mary … and the Glory Be…
We invite you to pray the Stations with other Members of the Queen of All Hearts and we hope this helps you in your own Spiritual Journey!
One request: If possible, hold a cross in your hands when you pray and meditate on the Stations. Holding a cross, while praying, has a dramatic and powerful impact on one’s spiritual prayer life.
Just a note. After the prayers at the end of each Station, two Latin Prayers are sung by the congregation. In respecting this written treasure of Fr. Texier, these prayers are retained and prayed in Latin as he suggested many years ago. There is a benefit in hearing how the Church prayed long ago, and it is repeated here. The phrases are explained in the audio and are listed below.
Miserere Nostri, Domine, Miserere Nostri.
Have Mercy on Us O Lord, Have Mercy on Us.
Fidelium Animae, Per Misericordiam Dei,
Requiescant in Pace. Amen
May the Souls of the Faithful Departed
Rest in Peace. Amen.
