One of the Images of Christian Life and Thanksgiving, is Like a Pilgrimage: The First Thanksgiving
On Thanksgiving Day many think of football or food or pilgrims, or a parade.
But on this day, Thanksgiving has an element of particular clarity at a place like the Shrine. For those that attend a Shrine, that visitor is called a pilgrim. Just by showing up. It recasts what it means on this day. A pilgrim is a person that makes a spiritual or religious journey. One leaves home, and goes somewhere else not just to make a visit. It is a journey in union and harmony with God.
There is a fundamental religious character embedded in the Thanksgiving origin. Thanksgiving is what happens before the meal. Hear more about the original Thanksgiving within the Homily.
Faith guides and marks the original journey of the pilgrims. Embedded in Thanksgiving is something that is connected with the mystery of the Church. One of the Images of Christian Life is Like a Pilgrimage. Hear more why this is so. Understand what that really means and why it’s important for our own spiritual journey. The First Thanksgiving Occurred 60 Years Prior to Plymouth’s Thanksgiving in America
Note: Many people think the first Thanksgiving was at Plymouth, Massachusetts. in the 1600s. We were taught that, perhaps in school. During the Homily you’ll hear about the September 8, 1565 Thanksgiving in Florida by the first pilgrims in what would be United States. Mass was held on that days on a special feast day of Our Lady. This is not to minimize what was celebrated in Plymouth some sixty years later. Hear more within the Homily.
And, regardless of when its celebrated in your home and country, Happy Thanksgiving from the Association of Mary, Queen of All Hearts.
