Mary, Cause of Our Joy

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

Brief Overview

This multi-part symposium explores the theme of Mary, The Cause of Our Joy!

The conference focuses on three key facets. Firstly, the conference explores the profound reasons behind Mary’s role as the Cause of Our Joy. Secondly, the audio examines the historical significance of Mary as the originator of a pivotal event from many years past—the birth of Jesus. However, our inquiry extends beyond mere acknowledgment of historical occurrences; we must also recognize the ongoing impact that underscores Mary’s role in our joy—the continuous bestowal of divine grace through her. Thirdly, the Church’s attribution of this title to Our Lady underscores her active agency in shaping our lives. The first conference will provide a glimpse into the significance of this acknowledgment, with a more comprehensive exploration planned for a subsequent session.

Conference #1: Mary’s Role as The Cause of Our Joy: A Deeper Perspective

The audio focuses on Our Lady, hailed as The Cause of Our Joy. This title carries ancient origins in reverence to Our Lady, yet it has become rare in today’s modern world, much like several other titles associated with her. Let us take a moment to ponder this aspect as we embark upon this conference. Many are familiar with the Litany of Loretto, the Litany of Mary.

However, the Litany is not a mere compilation of titles for Our Lady; it surpasses being a mere catalog of her attributes. It serves as a way of bestowing names upon Our Lady. As you engage with the Litany, observe how each title of Our Lady is followed by the entreaty… “Pray for Us!” This illustrates that we are not merely enumerating characteristics but engaging in a dialogue with a person – we are invoking her in diverse ways. Further insights on this can be explored within the conference.

Every exquisite expression found within the Litany offers another facet through which we can comprehend Mary. What lies in the utterance of the word “Mary!”? When we invoke the Cause of Our Joy, we are not merely referencing Our Lady; rather, we are uncovering the essence of who she truly is – the very origin of our joy. These themes are explored more extensively within the conference.

It is crucial to acknowledge that Jesus Christ is unequivocally THE CAUSE OF OUR JOY! Any discourse concerning Our Lady is inherently directed towards revealing Jesus as The Cause of Our Joy. This prompts us to inquire: What forms your source of joy? Allow the conference’s discourse on this subject to guide your reflections.

OUR JOY

Consider the weight behind the phrase “OUR JOY.” It signifies a joy that is not solely personal; it transcends individual delight to become a collective OUR JOY. Whose joy? On one hand, it encompasses the joy of the Church. It encapsulates the joy of all humanity! As we contemplate the inclusiveness inherent in the term “OUR,” it becomes evident that we are delving into a joy that extends beyond personal satisfaction, touching not only one’s own life but also radiating to those around us.

What Does it Mean to say Mary, Cause of Our Joy? How do we genuinely comprehend OUR JOY? How do we obtain this Joy?

In this conference, a great overview of The Cause of Our Joy is given. It not only includes Our Lady’s impact on salvation, but the Joy of the presence of God. Uncover more depths within this initial conference by lending your ear to its insights.

#2: The Lord Tells Us: You Will Know Your Joy, When You Know THE WOMAN (Select for Description)

The Lord Tells Us: You Will Know Your Joy, When You Know THE WOMAN.

NOS CUM PROLE PIA BENEDICAT VIRGO MARIA
(May the Virgin Mary bless us with her loving child)

The opening portion of this conference explains the history and meaning of this Latin phrase. A phrase that was also important to St. Louis de Montfort.

During the initial conference, a considerable amount of time was allocated to exploring the inherent human desire for happiness. It was conveyed that in the beginning, Adam and Eve resided in a state of bliss within paradise. The concept of paradise inherently embodies everlasting joy. Regrettably, humanity was led astray by malevolent forces, causing a forfeiture of this joy and severance from divine communion. Consequently, this loss led to the emergence of sorrow as an inheritance. Man, in isolation, is incapable of attaining complete joyfulness.

THE WOMAN

Left to his own devices, man would inevitably return to the dust, devoid of the experience of joy. Fortunately, the story’s culmination isn’t so bleak. This conference’s audio delves further into this narrative. In his dialogue with the Lord, Adam attributes his transgression to the woman who offered him the apple, thus leading him down the path of evil. In response, the Lord pledges to provide Adam with a new woman, a distinctive daughter. Humanity will be bestowed with a new woman, through whom the fruit of life will be bestowed. This is no ordinary woman—it is THE WOMAN. The profound significance of this revelation is expounded upon in the conference audio.

The true embodiment of joy transcends mere emotion, state of being, or circumstance; it manifests as a person. The genuine joy that resonates within the human heart and spirit is embodied in Jesus Christ. Ultimately, the heart’s purpose is to forge a connection with the Lord, cultivating a sense of communion. The authentic paradise for which the human heart yearns extends beyond a physical location; it finds its fulfillment in the Lord.

Therefore, it is crucial to heed the Lord’s words. When the Lord introduces THE WOMAN, a profound statement is being made. Your comprehension of joy will be complete when you come to know THE WOMAN.

In this conference, we also hear about what the Lord means, via St. Luke, IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME and how this relates to The Cause of Our Joy.

#4: Our Lady in Heaven, Adorned with Grace, Intercedes For Us: Cause of Our Joy (Select for Description)

Our Lady in Heaven, Adorned with Grace, Intercedes for Us: The Cause of Our Joy

The preceding conferences examine the various facets of the theme: “Mary, The Cause of Our Joy!” However, there exists even more depth to explore, which is truly marvelous, considering the apparent simplicity of the title.

An ancient depiction of Our Lady, often overlooked, bears a direct link to the focal point of this conference. This connection derives from the Book of Genesis, though it differs from the well-known narrative of Adam and Eve in the Garden. Rather, it is rooted in the tale of Noah, the Ark, and the Deluge. Following the abatement of the waters and Noah’s offering of gratitude and sacrifice to the Lord, He declared that His bow would rest within the clouds. Whenever He beheld the clouds and the bow, it would serve as a reminder. No longer would a cataclysmic flood engulf the world.

Within the Church, this tradition perceives Our Lady assumed into Glory within that rainbow. Discover more about the correlation between this scripture and the Cause of Our Joy! Uncover insights into the dynamic presence of Our Lady and its implications for us.

Our Lady Guides Us

However, comprehending merely the title of Our Lady falls short. It is imperative to grasp how this understanding influences the embodiment of our faith and enables us to embrace the richness of the Catholic tradition. Unveil the enigma of Our Lady’s guidance, aiding us in dwelling in the presence of Our Lord. Gain insight into the impact on our spiritual journey. Reflect deeply upon these themes, which are also addressed throughout this conference.

Later in the conference the following is asked of all of us. Do we appreciate who we really are, in the eyes of God? Do we really appreciate not just what He is done for us, but how He continues to shape our lives? Our Lady provides us with an example. Hear how this should help shape our own love for God and Our Lady. The Cause of OUR JOY.

Lastly, we hear about the source of joyfulness. It is the source and fountain of all Christian praise of the great things the Lord has done for us! Hear how this praise should also impact our own spiritual lives. The Cause of OUR JOY.
