The Garden of Eden and the Garden of Our Heart: the Intention of God for Mankind . . . For Us!

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

The Garden of Eden and the Garden of Our Heart: . . .

T oday’s readings have two gardens.

The first reading (not included within this audio) tells us about the Garden of Eden. The Gospel tells us about the Garden of Our Heart.

In the readings of the last several days we hear about the story of the Seven Days of Creation and the Creation of Man. Today we hear about the second story of creation – The Creation of Man. One story follows the other. The Book of Genesis has two accounts of the Creation of Mankind. Hear more within the Homily.

The Garden of Eden was created by God for man. The universe, and Earth, was created for man. The shape of human life is the work of God. Before you say . . . what happened? . . .  Listen more to the Homily.

God breathes into man to give man the fullness of life. The Garden of Eden is created to give mankind the fullness of life . . . that was what was intended by God. Remarkable!

. . . the Intention of God for Mankind . . . For Us!

Man, in the image of God, comes from God. All men and all human life have its origin in God. The Garden of Eden was planted in the East. East is the direction of Light . . . the direction of His Son. Hear more on what that means.

God wants to settle mankind in a place of joy . . . in a place of goodness. He wants a place of abundance and beauty for all of mankind. We all know how the story of the Garden of Eden ends for man, and the reason why. Have we ever contemplated what God’s intentions are for mankind? Have we ever contemplated the goodness intended for mankind within the Garden of Eden . . . and for eternity?

The Homily then discusses the second Garden. The Garden of Our Heart. What does that mean, and why is it important? The Garden of Eden and the Garden of Our Heart: the Intention of God for Mankind . . . for us!
