Today,   two thousand years after the birth of Christ, . . .

Christian believers think all Jewish people of the time celebrated the same way. Not so! For example, there were pockets of Jewish people that did not believe in the resurrection. Other pockets did believe. So for some pockets of Jewish people at that time, Jesus was doubly problematic. They disagreed that He was the Son of God. Obviously, many did not believe that. They also did not believe in the Resurrection news of Jesus when that was preached by the disciples, including St. Peter and St. John. The traditions of their fathers did not permit such beliefs.

Traditions

The leaders of the Jewish people carried on a tradition handed down by Moses. Israel always looked beyond itself for fulfillment. They looked for a Messiah to come. The leaders refused to believe, however, that Jesus was that fulfillment.

The Christian traditions did not and does not look beyond itself. We do not wait for another. Why is this important? Hear more within the audio.

So during those times, we have two traditions; the Jewish tradition of looking beyond itself and the Christian tradition of looking to Jesus. When Jesus explained to Nicodemus who He is, Jesus said I am the only Begotten Son of the Father. People need not, therefore, look for another.

God’s Only Begotten Son

For all people, to believe in Jesus, they must believe He is God’s only Begotten Son . . . He is the Great Messenger. There is no one greater that will be coming after Him.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says the light of the world is here. Yet, the world and the human hearts prefers darkness. Those that prefer darkness, Jesus does not condemn them. People preferring darkness condemn themselves. Salvation depends upon an individual relationship with Jesus.
