We Suffer Not Because We Know God Will Protect Us, But Because He is Our God

Who Are We Going to Be?
In Chapter 8 of St. John’s Gospel, Jesus has a long conversation . . . over several days’ Gospel readings.
Everything is about the acceptance of Jesus Christ. The ability to accept Christ . . . for the Jews during Jesus’ ministry, and for us today . . . depends on one’s heart. Do they (we) give our hearts to God . . . or not? Uniquely, Jesus speaks to some who believe in Him. Yet, they are trying to kill Him. In the Gospel, Jesus points out an interesting statement on real faith. Listen to the homily to hear more.
The Homily reviews an earlier reading from the Book of Daniel (not included within this audio). The Babylonians rule Israel. The king requires all in the kingdom to bow down and worship an idol . . . built by the king. Three young men say no. The three young men’s answer is amazing. Again, they say no. They continue and say . . . God will save them from evil. And if He doesn’t . . . that is OK also. Wow! Talk about faith. They enter the furnace, not because they are convinced that God will rescue them. These men enter the furnace because they are His. They belong to God . . . and no one else. Wow! Hear more about these young men’s faith. Faithfulness not because of what God will do for them . . . but because He is their God. What will we do for the Lord?
