Feast of St. Agnes – One of the Greatest in Faith and Holy Martyrs!
Feast of St. Agnes – The Patron Saint of the Diocese of Rockville Center, Long Island, NY.
The Gospel reading today is about a great treasure found in a field. It is also the Feast of St. Agnes, also a great treasure.
The Gospel talks about a great treasure that is hidden and that one must dig up. The treasure of the Gospel and the treasure of the Kingdom of God is why we must work the field. One of the ways we plow this field, where the treasure lays and is hidden, is by considering and contemplating the great things He has done in and through our patron saints. This Gospel also tells us about St. Agnes herself.
This may be a surprise, or even confusing to the reader of the Gospel; because it does not tell us directly about martyrdom. Often times when Agnes is depicted, she is depicted as an adult. Spiritually, that is true. Historically, however, that is not true. See how Agnes surpasses many in faith by listening to her story. Understand how we all, regardless of what Diocese you live in, can spiritually be impacted by understanding why Agnes is so important. Listen to this Meditation Media for the week.
