Q&A: Isn’t Saint Louis de Montfort a one-issue saint? Everything he writes is about Mary and that disturbs me. His writings are not balanced.

Montfort’s Writings
If anyone should purchase the Writings of Saint Louis de Montfort, it’s you. But even if you have read only his most popular work, the True Devotion, you could never have come up with such a statement. One of the great beauties of Saint Louis de Montfort’s writings is that he so clearly insists upon the absolute centrality of Jesus Christ. He writes Jesus is the only way, truth and life. Read, for example, TD #61-62. You will see how far off the mark your assessment of Saint Louis de Montfort is. And don’t forget to study his principal work, The Love of the Eternal Wisdom.
I suspect that you are forming an opinion more from hear- say – and from people who do not understand Montfort – than from any reading of Saint Louis de Montfort’s works. Saint Louis de Montfort would never be so highly commended by the magisterium of the Church if he were “not balanced” in his doctrine.
Just one example of the numerous praises accorded him by the church; Pius XII calls his devotion to Our Lady “ardent, solid and correct.” John Paul II openly declares that Montfort’s writings were a “turning point” in his life. Have no fear – you are definitely on solid ground when you read Saint Louis de Montfort! And if you have any questions concerning an aspect of his teachings, don’t hesitate to write to us.
