St Paul: Sing a Song of Praise to the Lord

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

T he homily’s focus is on St. Paul and one specific point in his life. Arrested and dragged into prison, beaten, and chained in place. Yet the violence and the injustice administered to them, it does not rob them of their faith, nor a certain joyfulness of their spirit. We hear that Paul and Silas are not groaning from their wounds. Rather, he is heard singing the praises of God. Wow! St. Paul was not crying out, or singing for freedom. Rather, he was singing praises of God.

In many ways, we are also (at times) like St. Paul. Unjustly a victim of life. Hurt by the world. Perhaps we wear the chains of the world. Originally recorded during the pandemic. We were chained to our homes. But while we may be restricted…however temporarily, we are encouraged to not rush back to the way things were. See what freedoms are available to us! See what lessons are available to us! Listen to this brief (14 minutes) homily and meditate on it for our own Spiritual Journey.
