O Lord … Sow the Seeds of Wheat into My Heart

O Lord … Sow the Seeds of Wheat into My Heart
In a prior Gospel, Jesus tells us about the seed that falls on good ground, and rocky ground. In today’s Gospel, Jesus’ focuses on the seed that falls on the good ground. The Gospel talks about the enemy who places the seeds of weeds among the good seeds. As the seeds grow, the wheat and the weeds, at first, look a-like. Its difficult to tell them apart. What began with good soil and good plants, now has a mixture of wheat and weeds.
The Homily reflects upon this mixture statement…of good and bad in society, in the Church and in our own heart. Focusing on our hearts: On the day of our Baptism, our heart was pure. Into that rich and fertile soil of our Baptized heart … the life of Jesus Christ was planted in each of us! Each of these parables have different context, but its always important to focus on what they mean to our own heart.
We All Fall Asleep Spiritually
As we live our lives, we all fall asleep. We become distracted with the things of the world; our pre-occupations. We become distracted with even good things. If we are not careful, we fall asleep. We are physically, wide awake. However, spirituality, we fall asleep. Inside of us, we fall asleep. Our hearts fall asleep. As we fall asleep, the enemy comes and sows bad seed: laziness, self-interest, reckless ambitions, and other desires. When we are distracted, we devote our time to these things.
When we are distracted, the weeds look like wheat. These things start to look good to us. Weeds start to overcome the wheat. The wheat is there, but its hard to find when the weeds are so many.
We can always change. We can change from having weeds in our heart to increasing the wheat in our hearts. The Lord knows we may have weeds and wheat in our heart. He does not up-root the wheat in our heart. Hear more about what God wants for us by listening to this twenty minute audio.

Note: From approximately 3:50 to about 7:50, the discussion after the Gospel and at the beginning of the Homily focuses first on some changes at the Shrine of Our Lady. Feel free to advance ahead in the Homily.
