The Greatness and Mystery of the Name of Mary
Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM
T he Greatness and Mystery of the Name Mary
In the conference The Marks or Characteristics of True Devotion to Our Lady was reviewed. The first of these marks is the Interior Devotion to Mary. The Interior Devotion characteristic is the area of concentration in the various conferences for this month. St. Louis de Montfort says that interior devotion occurs when we spend time with Mary in understanding her virtues and goodness. We need to focus on who she is and her role within salvation.
Gaze Upon Our Lady
In this conference, in union with the Church, we will gaze upon Our Lady, contemplate Our Lady and behold our mother, through the lens of the titles she has been given. This will be accomplished using the Litany of Loreto. A brief history of the origin of the Litany is reviewed. The text of Litany may be found via several online sources and is prayed at the end of this conference.
In the conference, certain pictures are referenced. See the pictures at the bottom of this page for the images.
The Litany names Our Lady in numerous ways. The names reveal Our Lady and says something about her essence. The primary focus of this conference does not focus on these titles. Rather, this conference unpacks the Greatness and Mystery of the Name Mary. All members of Queen of All Hearts have a hunger to find out and know more about Mary. This conference fulfills this hunger by focusing on the beauty of the name Mary.
At the fullness of time, the moment the Lord is moving to save His People is when we first meet the name of Mary in the Gospel of St. Luke. We read, in the sixth month …. Which means six months prior to the Annunciation, the Lord was at work.
The Angel Gabriel was sent to a town … to a Virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph … and the Virgin’s name was Mary. The audio reviews this in more detail. The Gospel tells us the “Earthly Description” of Mary. We know the town, she is betrothed, she is a Virgin, and we know the woman’s name. All “Earthly Descriptions”.
Hail, Full of Grace
The conference describes the “Heavenly Description”. Hail, Full of Grace. Heaven does not say Hail Mary! Man does that! In the eyes of Heaven, this person is Full of Grace. Hear more on how Heaven sees Mary…how God sees Mary!
When she hears this greeting, Mary is troubled. Because Mary does not understand what Full of Grace means. She is not afraid of the angel is in her midst. She is troubled with the greeting’s meaning. Mary needs Heaven to reveal the truth about her. The Lord needs to tell her she is Full of Grace. The Lord must also tell us how Heaven sees each one of us! We need to pray for this grace.
Full of Grace: It is how God sees Mary! Meditate on this! There is no room for any thing else than grace. No room for envy. No room for selfishness, self-interest, injustice, and anger. There is only room for grace. Hear more about how Heaven sees Mary. This idea captivated St. Louis de Montfort. He looks on Mary on who she is, with the help of God. Take a look at the picture that begins … God the Father! Hear more about how Fr. de Montfort connects the dots and how he saw Mary, through the grace of God.
What is Grace?
Grace is Devine Help and Devine Favor. No room for anything else. Hear the discussion in the audio on Devine Help and Devine Favor.
How beautiful contemplating this in this way. Mary was full with grace. Jesus, at the point of the Annunciation, was pleased to enter for nine months a vessel Full of Grace. This fact so captivated St. Louis de Montfort, he created a prayer / hymn. The audio reviews this prayer and discusses it in the context of Full of Grace. The pictures below highlights some of the lines within the prayer / hymn.
The Depth of Grace
St. Louis de Montfort states mankind can not understand the level and depth of grace within Mary. The audio reviews and discusses the depth of grace (refer to the picture below; I join all the saints…).
The audio ends with the praying of the Litany and a Blessing. We encourage all Queen of All Hearts members to listen / view this conference to fulfill your hunger of knowing Mary. Know Mary by seeing how God sees Mary!
