G reat Biblical Themes In The Blessing of Water

During the Easter Mass, there is a beautiful blessing of the water in the font. It is a beautiful prayer that we rarely have the time to take and meditate on. This Spiritual Insight walks us through the various Biblical Passages that involves water and relates them to the Blessing of the Easter Waters, illustrating the importance in our Spiritual Life.

Water is not just placed into the font in our Parishes. Yes, someone pours the water into the font, but the Lord created water, the Lord transforms the water. God, it was described in Genesis, created water. How does this relate to the Easter water in the font?

In Exodus, God through Noah (Noe), parted the waters in the Red Sea. How does this relate to the Easter Waters?

While the Lord’s Baptism might be more readily associated with the waters in the font, how are the two connected?

Listen to this audio as several passages are read relating them in such a way as to impact our Spiritual Life. Listen to the beautiful Easter prayer as it is further explained.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to these Spiritual Insights, originally recorded at the Shrine during the pandemic.

The Baptism of Christ: Italian Renaissance Painter: Andrea del Verrocchio (Teacher to Leonardo da Vinci): 1472-1475

One of the passages discussed in the audio is Baptism. This painting was started by the teacher of Leonardo. It is believed Leonardo worked a little on this painting near the time it was finished (1475). Notice God the Father and Holy Spirit at the top of the painting.

Baptism_of_the_Neophytes: Masaccio, born Tommaso di Ser Giovanni di Simone—1425

This painting was used during a week of conferences having a topic that involves Baptism. Masaccio is considered one of the first of the Italian great painters. What makes this painting unique, besides being almost 600 years old, is the incorporation of nature and incorporation of colors to highlight various points in the painting. Points of his art style were copied by other Italian greats, such as Michelangelo.
