The Gift of His Peace

Fr. Hugh Gillespie, SMM

T he Gift of His Peace

In St. John’s Gospel we read the Apostles locked themselves in the Upper Room on Easter evening, where just a few days prior they experienced The Last Supper. They locked out the world because of their fears of the world outside. They not only locked the world out, but in doing so, they locked themselves into this room.

Easter night Jesus came to the Upper Room, the locked doors could not hold them out. As the Apostles looked on, Jesus says … Peace be with you! He does not say anything before that. The first thing he says is Peace be with you! He will eventually say this twice! But what does this actually mean? We hear it at Mass. What does it mean? What is Jesus conveying when He says this word?

The audio takes us on a journey through scripture, allowing scripture to shed its light on scripture. Scripture will provide us the insight to understand what Jesus means by this statement: Peace be with you …

Listen to this audio to gain a better appreciation of what Jesus is giving all of us … during the Mass. Listen to this audio to hear about the Gift Jesus gives to the Church … and each one of us…if we are willing to receive it.
